Understanding Architecture

Architecture is the art & design of buildings and how they are built.  Over history there have been many ways ans styles that buildings are created, (e.g: Roman, Medieval, Gothic, and Modern).  As a way to help start the project, the tutors asked us to go into the city and take pictures of Norman, Georgian, and contemporary buildings.

Norman Architecture:

Norman style buildings are mainly castles and fortresses built around the 12th and 13th century by the Normans.  Here are a couple of Norman style buildings that I found:

The Norwich castle and cathedral are prime examples of Norman architecture, both are massive in size showing this style of architecture and being dominant and long lasting.

Georgian Architecture:

Georgian Architecture focuses on a period of time when England had a lot of wealth and growth, this is shown through the different art styles and decorations used in the construction of the building.

The Norwich assembly house is one of the best places to go for Georgian architecture, with its amazing garden outside and incredibly decorated pillars, walls, ceilings and chandeliers inside.

Contemporary Architecture:

Contemporary architecture is varied in terms of style due to it's unique structural design and materials. I found a few buildings around Norwich that had different designs to them than the other buildings around the city.  The ones I found where The Forum Library and BBC centre:
